Programmatic boiler content in Prince Edward Island

PEI is too small for a generated city-page set. The right build is one Island-wide hub, a tight model and fault-code library, and accurate notes on programs that have recently closed.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Prince Edward Island is the clearest case in Canada for building small. With a population spread across a handful of towns, a generated set of city pages would almost certainly read as doorway pages. The useful build is one strong Island-wide hub, a model and fault-code library limited to what your technicians actually see, and accurate notes on programs that have recently closed. We are a marketing service, not a contractor.

PEI's boiler market and buyers

PEI's heating mix leans on oil and heat pumps. Statistics Canada reports that in 2023, 28% of Island households heated mainly with oil, 18% with electricity and 8% with wood, while heat pumps were the main system in 36% of homes.

Boiler buyers are mostly:

  • owners of oil-fired hot-water systems replacing an older boiler
  • households running a boiler alongside heat pumps, who need service on both
  • owners of older commercial and multi-unit buildings

Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford, Three Rivers and Cornwall are the main communities. Most Island boiler companies serve several of them from one base.

Climate and seasonality

PEI's winters are cold and snowy, moderated somewhat by the surrounding Gulf of St. Lawrence. Heating runs a long season, and storm-related no-heat calls are a real part of winter demand.

For content:

  • fault-code pages for the oil and electric boilers you service should be published before autumn
  • the Island-wide hub should state real response times and storm arrangements, if you offer them
  • comparison content for households with both boilers and heat pumps suits the spring

Regulators to know

PEI's Inspection Services cover boilers and pressure vessels, plumbing, electrical and propane. Boiler and pressure vessel work requires a Mechanical Contractor Licence, with the current cycle ending 2027-12-31, and propane appliance service needs an LP Gas Personnel Licence.

The Workers Compensation Board of PEI covers workplace insurance. We link and summarise only.

Programs relevant to boiler content, as of October 2026

Several Island programs closed recently, so existing boiler pages are likely to contain out-of-date claims.

  • The efficiencyPEI residential equipment rebates for heat pumps ended on 2026-04-15. Purchases made between 2025-04-15 and 2026-04-15 may still be claimed within a year of purchase.
  • The efficiencyPEI Free Heat Pump Program page states that applications are closed; the closure date was not confirmed in our source data.
  • A Free Insulation Program expansion for income-qualified homeowners was announced under a federal agreement on 2026-06-29; current intake details were not confirmed.

Pages should say plainly what has closed. Telling a reader that a rebate no longer exists is useful information, and it builds trust when competitors' pages still advertise it.

Why small is the right size here

A common pitch to Island companies is a page for every community from Tignish to Souris. On a market this size, those pages would share almost all their content, and a reader in one town would learn nothing that a reader in the next town wouldn't. That is the doorway pattern described in our scaled-content guide.

The alternative is depth. One hub can carry a real list of the communities you serve, your typical travel times, the kinds of homes you work on, and a clear statement of which programs are open or closed this season. A visitor from any Island community gets a better answer from that single page than from a dozen thin ones.

How we'd build a PEI page set

  1. One Island-wide hub built on job records, naming the communities you serve, using our multi-city hubs method in its smallest form
  2. A focused model library, perhaps 20 to 60 pages, for the oil and electric boilers your technicians service
  3. Fault-code pages for the two or three brands you see most
  4. A dated program section on the hub, maintained in the dataset

A build like this sits comfortably within a Starter plan and a Professional website; see the pricing page. Return to the areas hub for other regions.

Frequently asked questions

Should we have separate pages for Charlottetown and Summerside?

Only if you have distinct crews, response times or a body of work in each. For most Island companies, one hub that names the communities you serve is stronger than two thin pages.

Are efficiencyPEI heat pump rebates still open?

As of October 2026, the residential equipment rebates ended on 2026-04-15, and the Free Heat Pump Program page says applications are closed. Confirm with efficiencyPEI before any page mentions them.

What licence covers boiler work on PEI?

The province requires a Mechanical Contractor Licence for boiler and pressure vessel work; the current three-year cycle ends 2027-12-31. We link the province's page; your licensing is between you and the province.
